Teaching Assistant

£12,965 - £13,493 Part time Term Time Only 21-01-2019 Level 2 childcare qualification
This is an exciting time for our school, as we have moved to a brand new, spacious building at the beginning of 2018 and I would like to invite you to apply for the post of Teaching Assistant at Chapel Green School.
We are a Complex Needs School for 86 pupils, growing to approx. 100 pupils by September 2019, with moderate, severe or profound learning difficulties between the ages of 3 to 19. All pupils have different learning needs; they learn best when they are happy and excited about learning.
We need to expand our team of support staff and are looking for a Teaching Assistant with commitment to develop their skills in the field of Special Educational Needs. This post is needed to enable us to facilitate the induction and inclusion of our new pupils that are due to join us in the coming months. Your role will be either class based or working across the department and you will be working under the direction of a class teacher and/or the phase leader.
You will need to be a team player, calm, patient, have an eye for detail and a good working knowledge of ICT; full training, induction and mentoring will be offered. Your work will cover all aspects of children’s learning, pastoral, social & emotional and personal care, in line with the School’s ethos and policy. You will need to work closely and effectively with your class and our support team, pupils’ families and other partners. High quality communication and people skills are required for this post.
You need to have relevant experience and/or qualifications (e.g. level 2, desirable level 3) and demonstrate the ability and commitment to help and support our pupils to achieve their very best potential. You will be employed for 39 weeks of the year plus four weeks’ holiday pay pro rata. The working hours are as stated in the job description.
We have moved to a brand new, state of the art building in January 2018. The building project was commissioned by Norfolk County Council, was designed and managed by NPS and constructed by Morgan Sindall. Our new school is situated in close vicinity to the Old Buckenham Primary and High Schools with whom we already have very effective working relationships.
Over a period of three years we will be growing from 63 to 110 pupils and we have currently 87 pupils on role. All our pupils have a wide range of special and additional needs; pupils may have moderate to severe learning difficulties or profound and multiple learning needs with significant sensory impairment or medical needs.
We use a range of specialist equipment, including a hydrotherapy pool, multi-sensory rooms, specialist hoisting, standing, walking and seating resources and bespoke outdoor play equipment.
Currently we operate three minibuses, this is likely to grow to four within the first 18 months.

Should you be successful, the school is committed to assist and further your professional development and you will take part in our Induction and Performance Management Programme. As part of your induction, you will be allocated a senior teaching assistant as your mentor. Our school provides an in depth and ongoing training programme for all staff and you are expected to participate in all necessary training to maintain and update your skills.
The school has a clear vision to support the inclusion of young people with additional needs. We are continually developing this role within the local community and especially with the local mainstream schools. A commitment to inclusive and outward looking practice in our school and local community is essential to this post.
Our school is fully committed to safeguarding children and to this end any appointment will be subject to:-
• Two written references, who will be asked to comment on your suitability for working with our pupils. One of your references must be from your most recent/last employer and you are advised to seek referees from two different settings; one may be a character reference.
• An enhanced DBS check. The further responsibility to maintain the DBS update on an annual basis lies with the employee and you will be required to maintain your DBS update service while you are employed at our school.
