Pre-School Assistant

Stoke Holy Cross Preschool is a small, friendly setting for children aged between 2.5 and 4 years. We are looking for a new member of staff to join our experienced team on a part-time basis, working the following hours:

Monday 8.00-3.15
Wednesday 8.30-1.15
(Hours may be available Thursday 08.30-12.15, currently under review)

Purpose of job:
To provide safe, high quality education and care for pre-school children; to fulfil legal and statutory requirements; to work as part of the pre-school team under the direction of the Manager.

Assistant role:
1. To work as part of a team providing a high quality of education and learning in compliance with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
2. To work in partnership with the staff team to plan and implement play activities which meet the individual developmental needs of the children attending the setting and offer appropriate stimulation and support. To assist the staff team to complete all areas of planning and evaluation.
3. To ensure that the welfare and safety of children is promoted within the setting and that any child protection concerns are always appropriately acted upon immediately.
4. To welcome parents/carers, building strong relationships through day-to-day liaison. To inform parents about the pre-school and its curriculum, exchanging information about children’s progress and encouraging parental involvement at all levels in the work of the pre-school, including regular reviews of the children’s progress.
5. To ensure that the pre-school is a welcoming environment for children, staff and others, that equipment is safe, standards of hygiene are high, and safety procedures are implemented at all times.
6. To help ensure that children attending the setting receive a balanced and healthy diet at snack time.
7. To attend and take an active role in staff meetings.
8. To ensure all children’s paperwork including personal records are accurate and information is kept in a manner which affords maximum confidentiality. To complete children’s learning stories, observations and all areas of reflective practice and self-evaluation.
9. To help the Manager to ensure all pre-school records are properly maintained and updated e.g. daily attendance register, accident and incident books, any behavioural and development reports, any safeguarding issues, and health and safety records.
10. To contribute to and help implement all pre-school policies and procedures e.g. register and signing out procedures, child protection, health and safety, confidentiality, food safety, setting hygiene.
11. To work as a team to help implement any recommendations made following regulatory inspections.
12. To attend any conferences, training events or meetings as identified by the committee and to keep up to date with current good practice. Training will be provided and any extra training will be considered after a successful probation period has been completed.

Successful candidate to start after February half term.
