Job Title: Midday Supervisory Assistant
Responsible to: Headteacher/Head of Secondary/Primary Department
Grade: Scale A
Terms and Conditions: 7.5 hrs per week (12 noon to 1.30pm), term time only

Main Purpose of the Role
To undertake routine supervision duties over the lunchtime period, usually based in a specific class working with a group of pupils. To work alongside other MSAs and teaching assistants to ensure that duties are carried out efficiently and effectively as a team.

Roles and Responsibilities
Responsible in the first instance to the teaching assistant on duty in class and to the class teacher and head of department. Overall responsible to the Headteacher.
Supervision of children in all areas of the school, including dining room, play areas, classroom – as directed by either the class teaching assistant and teacher or the head of department.
Make every effort to communicate and interact (total communication) with pupils effectively; develop trust and positive relationships with them.
The maintenance of good order at all times. To follow pupil’s behaviour management plans where appropriate. To be fully aware of pupils needs with regards to behaviour.
Supervision of children on the school premises to ensure that health and safety and school regulations are observed. To be aware of essential pupil information (orange folder in each class).
Supervision of children during the meal to ensure that a good atmosphere is maintained. Encourage good table manners and assist children where necessary. Follow feeding and meal time guidelines for individual pupils or a class group.
General assistance in the dining area (or class base) as necessary e.g. cutting up food, help children at the hutch to choose their lunch, wiping up spillages, helping children to tidy tables etc.
Supervision of movement of pupils to and from the dining room to the class and/or playground. Ensure pupils follow school rules and are safe. Assist with pupils to walk or to use special equipment.
Assist pupils, when necessary with their personal hygiene. Assist other staff to fulfil that role, following manual handling guidelines of individual pupils.
Ensure that pupils enjoy their playtime after lunch by involving them in a variety of activities and supporting them in their games and interactions.
To participate in necessary training activities to ensure the post holder can effectively and safely fulfil their role. (e.g. Team Teach training)
Ensure that the school is informed of any absences well in advance, no later than 9AM the same day. If called to assist in the classroom as a teaching assistant, to alert the office team as soon as possible.
Any other duties as may be delegated by the Headteacher.
